I’ve never been what you would call athletic, or even particularly coordinated. (Case in point — I have a huge bruise on my leg from where I hit it with my computer bag!) So when I saw the announcement of the Summer 2008 Genea-Bloggers Group Games, I thought, “Finally! A summer ‘sporting’ event that I can handle!”
The competition is divided into 5 categories:
- Go Back and Cite Your Sources!
- Back Up Your Data!
- Organize Your Research!
- Write, Write, Write!
- Reach Out & Perform Genealogical Acts of Kindness!
Considering that I just bought a new computer — yea! I’m a MacBook owner now! — I will definitely be competing in “Back Up Your Data.” I need to make copies of all sorts of files before I begin the transfer to the wonderful world that is Mac.
Along with that, I will likely do something in the “Organize Your Research” event. (Those of you who have seen my office know how funny that statement really is!) Last night, I was looking through photos that I had scanned for my parents’ 50th wedding anniversary. While the file names are descriptive, there isn’t any in-depth metadata. There are several hundred photos to deal with. Hmmm…. I’m seeing an iPhoto session coming on! 🙂
I hope to be able to participate in the “Acts of Kindness” event — after all, genealogy is about sharing.
Watch for my daily posts. Let the games begin!
